TAC Access
UUNET has Internet access available for persons who desire the ability
to access their host machines while on travel or from their home.
TAC Access allows subscribers to remotely access their host machine.
The subscriber may receive this service by calling any CompuServe
access number (there are some 200 of these nationwide), a 800 number,
or local numbers in Washington, DC; Boston, MA; San Jose, CA; or Palo
Alto, CA. The subscriber logs into their TAC account and enters a
modified telnet program that allows connections to any of the hosts
specified by the user when the account is set up.
Each customer must specify the host(s) they wish to connect to and a
person to verify their access to the host. (This could also be a
domain, such as all the hosts in *.foobar.com.) The customer may also
specify the length of time the host is to be accessible to them. (The
default for host availability is one calendar year.)
Subscribers are charged for line connection time for this service, on
a per hour basis. Payment is in advance or by credit card.
